Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail Transit Project - Phoenix, Ariz.
This project provided a transit alternative to congested roads, and served as a focal point for new development along the Central Avenue corridor and areas east of the Phoenix central business district, including the Sky Harbor Airport, Tempe and Mesa. It is anticipated that the Phoenix Light Rail System will generate approximately 15,300 hours of daily travel-time benefits by 2020.
This Design-Build/EPC contract involved the design, procurement, and installation of the Communications, Signals, and Traction power systems for 20-miles of light rail double track on five line sections.
MEC’s scope of work included 9 signal interlockings, 12 grade crossings with warning gates, 16 traction power substations, 1485 OCS poles, 2017 cantilevers, and 509,000 LF of messenger/contact wire. Also included were 517,000 LF of fiber optic cable and communication devices at 33 passenger stations.
